Clean Tech cooperation in Kristianstad

A boiler run by locally produced biogas that is able to produce heat as well as environ-mental friendly electricity for houses will be tested in Kristianstad in southern Sweden. Biogas from organic waste is already being used as fuel in cars and buses as well as for district heating in Kristianstad municipality. A field trial will show if biogas also could be an alternative for house-owners, farmers and others.

Kristianstad municipality, Region Skåne and Compower AB has signed an agreement for a field trial of Compower’s microCHP boiler. The boiler that produces heat as well as electric-ity will be tested for two years in Kristianstad.

– Kristianstad municipality has the vision of becoming a municipality free of fossil fuel and wants to support development and application of techniques of public interest, says municipal commissioner Mr Bengt Gustafsson.

The project is expected show how boilers like this can improve energy efficiency and hence be more environmental friendly, but also how this kind of technique can be used locally on a small-scale. It’s about using locally produced heat and electricity for the benefit of both the consumer and the environment.

The construction invented by Compower is unique, i.a. due to its capability of making use of a wide spectrum of renewable sources of energy. In Kristianstad it will be run by biogas. These kind of small-scale solutions on energy have given rise to national and international attention. The Swedish Energy Agency supports the developmental work of Compower and the com-pany in Lund is included on the list on eminent Swedish environmental engineering compa-nies that the American Ambassador Mr Michael Wood has launched.

Region Skåne supports the presentation, evaluation and marketing of the project results. Kris-tianstad municipality contributes with a testing ground and fuel from the biogas installation.

– For Region Skåne, this kind of Clean Tech investment is important for the future, says Mr Bo Fransson, the group executive board of Region Skåne.
